Edged Weapons Defense with Steve Tarani

knife class photoYou may carry a knife, but have you been trained to use it effectively in self-defense?  What would you do if you were attacked by an assailant wielding an edged weapon and you didn’t have anything but your bare hands – what can you do?

Train with one of America’s leading subject matter experts on how to defend yourself against an edged weapon attack even if you have nothing in your hands!

In this 2-day class, you will be presented with:

Blade Pros and Cons – What are the advantages and disadvantages of a fixed blade versus a folding blade? What are the functional differences between a serrated edge and a non-serrated edge? What are the important characteristics that separate a curved blade from a fixed or folding straight edge?

Knife Selection – What should I look for when purchasing a fixed or folding knife? How do you measure your hand and know that it is a perfect fit? What’s the right knife for me? How much should I spend? What are the best types of steel, blade length, shape and grind, opening and locking mechanism, handle materials, specific for you?

Grips, Stances and Operation – What are the three most effective methods of gripping an edged weapon? What is a stable fighting platform and how can you control any fight using your distance, position and mobility? What exactly can you do with a knife to stop a threat?

Edged Weapon Defense – What is access, carry and deployment? How can a folding knife be rapidly deployed from its carry position? What are the four gears of self-defense using an edged weapon and how do they work under extreme duress?

Empty Hand Defense – What and where are the seven lethal strike zones on your body and how can you defend against them even with nothing in your hands?

Disarming – Although not the first thing you’re going to try and do right out of the gate, however there is a time and a place. Isn’t it far better to have and not need, rather than need and not have?

Curved Blade (Karambit) – What is this combination of ancient technology and modern edged marvel? How do you hold it? How do you extend and retract to cover the three most critical defensive positions? What are the advantages over a straight edge? What makes the curved blade such a unique defensive tool employed at conversational ranges?
